After "Stargate" finished its run second only to "Doctor Who" in number of seasons for science fiction show , it had a couple of straight-to-dvd movies that tied up loose ends of the story. And I'm allowed to spell it without pain because technically they aired before the name degradation.
Then "Stargate Atlantis" finished up its run rather abruptly, getting a final episode that felt more like a season finale than any sort of wrap up to the series. A couple of movies were promised to wrap up loose ends i. Remember how Deep Space Nine was the game changer for the Star Trek series, taking the concept in a gritty, new direction?
Stargate Universe sees that challenge and raises it. What a difference one measly chevron makes. The heretofore unheard of ninth chevron dictates the shift of Stargate Universe. Previously in the Stargate universe , characters used eight chevrons to dial up a planet.
In order to dial into this mysterious ninth chevron, the Stargate requires massive amounts of power. Actor Michael Shanks is pessimistic about reprising the role of Dr. Shanks was part of the regular cast for most of the series' season run and appeared in two direct-to-disc movies, The Ark of Truth and Stargate Continuum , that were released in The success of those movies led to speculation that further feature-length Sg-1 adventures were likely to be made.
Given the two-year gap since the release of Stargate Continuum and the success the original cast members are having with other projects, though, Shanks is not optimistic that will now happen.
Stargate Universe hasn't had the easiest of starts. The fall finale, "Justice", drew the lowest ratings of the season and some critics and fans have given up on the series.
